π PRODUCT OVERVIEW
A complete two-board electronics system developed for Vagler International — the first manufactured 3D printer brand in Malaysia enabled local manufacturing of 3D printers in Malaysia – reduced reliance on imported electronics. The system comprises a re-engineered motion control mainboard and a custom-developed master board that bridges the printer hardware to Vagler's proprietary Sapphire™ PC software suite, delivering precise, reliable FDM printing with full network and USB connectivity.
π§ DESIGN BACKGROUND
In 2012, when 3D printing technology was just beginning to flourish commercially, Vagler approached Jaavin with their mechanically complete printer chassis — motors, gears, filament feeders and frame already built — but no electronics expertise in-house. Jaavin re-engineered an open-source mainboard reference design using the same ATmega1280 microcontroller, then developed an entirely new master board based on the LPC1768 to add all the custom features required by the Vagler product, including touchscreen, network connectivity, and accelerometer-based print monitoring.
πBOARD ARCHITECTURE
Main Board
Re-engineered ATmega1280-based motion controller. Handles all stepper motor drivers, limit switches, thermocouples, heater and fan outputs. Based on open-source reference design with Jaavin's proprietary improvements for Vagler's platform.
Master Board
Custom LPC1768 ARM Cortex-M3 board developed entirely by Jaavin. Manages TFT display, user input, SD storage, accelerometers, chassis lighting, emergency relay, and all PC communication via Ethernet and USB.
